A bit about the story of how Side Eye Queen came to be….

I was instantly drawn to this photograph and knew it was the one. The pose, the side eye glance & the snake necklace caught my attention because I was born in the year of the snake.

I could immediately envision bringing my unique details to this piece with acrylic paint pens & fabric collage using my own designs as well as adorning some of the textiles with stitches prior to layering them.

Running with a feminine yet fierce approach was the goal and to achieve this i wanted to create a flowery crown to signify growth from experiences in life.

Signifying someone I suppose we all want to be, the one with the heir of confidence who doesn’t allow people to walk over them but also has a softer side.

The eyes and sideways glance did all the work for me in terms of the fierce aspect, I just played into that by making them a key focus and in turn the title of the work.

As always with my artwork I didn’t plan every colour, or the composition I just instinctively knew what to do and let it flow. Art is my time to not overthink as generally and with everything else in life I do.

If Side Eye Queen resonates with you, like she did me you will find the original artwork live now, over at -
