ABOUT: THE MIXED MEDIA ART & SURFACE DESIGNS I CREATE

I work in the Art & Surface Design space so you will see a Multidisciplinary Mixed Media  approach in the types of work I create.

CREATING ART - Mixed Media combinations using drawing and or painting combined with using my own Surface Designs printed onto fabric as the primary focus (other minor op shopped/thrifted plain textiles may be incorporated too) then using appliqué, collage, basic stitching & embroidery techniques dependent on the base of either: paper, canvas or textile.

This includes:

Personal OOAK Artwork (Some for sale, others for exhibition and some to keep because I can’t part with them.)

Commissioned OOAK Art (for personal customers & business clients)

Custom Art - variations on my original artwork.

SURFACE DESIGN-

DESIGNING ARTWORKS WITH FABRIC IN MIND-

I create repeat patterns and illustrations to sell as fabric through various Australian and International businesses as well as to use personally in my own Mixed Media Artworks.

ARTWORK LICENSING-

I also create hand drawn digital patterns and spot illustrations for usage by business clients. You can find lots of examples of my digitally hand drawn work in my portfolio linked at the bottom of this page. I am also currently in the ‘long drawn out testing it phase’ of translating my traditional Mixed Media Artwork into designs suitable for art licensing and fabric printing.

Envisioned examples on the mock ups below.

The ways my patterns & illustrations can be used are in the form of-

KIMBRALOU x ANTAYJO ART COLLECTION-

Powerhouse Fashion Designer Kimbralou has used some of my textile sample prints in her sustainable fashion brand which is a dream come true for a fashion lover like myself. One of the outfits graced the catwalk at Australian Fashion week in 2022 and another was featured in Beautica Magazine Open Edition Issue 5. (April 2022) Salvaging and customising are her speciality whilst creating one of one designs which are underpinned by social and political awareness.

FYI-

It was actually Rachael Kings first book about Australian Surface Designers that gave me the push to head in this direction after wanting to for years.

It is such dream to see my work in print in the second volume of Pattern Pulse given Surface Pattern Design was something I worked day and night on after reading Volume one.

OTHER USES-

Whilst I create my Surface Designs with Fashion in mind my work also translates well across a range of industries and products.
My work has been used at large and small scales on various projects from calendars &  coffee cups to bags . I have in the past had my own T-Shirt range as well as earrings and whilst I now focus on OOAK Art rather than ‘products’ for my own creative business I do take on licensing requests in this area.

Two larger local project examples are noted below.

BALLARAT EVOLVE WINDOW PROJECT-

The window project commissioned by Ballarat Evolve (Supported by the City of Ballarat) paired six artists with empty spaces across the city of Ballarat and my designs brightened up number 10 Bridge Mall.

2024 FEDERATION UNIVERSITY ROADNATS BALLARAT-

The City of Ballarat commissioned four local Artists to design a coffee cup for the 2024 Road National Championships (Cycling) which is the largest cycling festival in Australia. The limited-edition artworks were designed to highlight features of Ballarat & Buninyong as cycling towns and were available from local coffee shops over the five day event in January. I was thrilled to have been selected for this project and enjoyed meeting the creative brief.
